Police to quiz Najib, Rosmah over RM1 billion hoard

NAJIB Razak and Rosmah Mansor will be called in soon for police questioning as part of the investigations into the seizures of the cash and items at the six premises, said Amar Singh Ishar Singh today.

The Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department director said it was the next step in investigations after police finished valuing the items linked to the former prime minister and his wife.

“They will be investigated, and we will also call their alleged gift-givers for statements to be recorded. We should be calling them soon,” he said at a press conference today.

“We need to verify their claims that these were gifts. We should be calling them in soon.”

Amar said 30 different individuals had given their statements to the police over the seizures.

He described the worth of the seizures as being among the biggest in police history.

The investigations are being conducted under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.

The RM1.1 billion hoard included RM116.7 million cash in 26 currencies, RM440 million worth of jewellery, 567 handbags of which 272 pieces were Hermes bags with a total value of RM51.3 million, luxury watches valued at RM78 million and branded sunglasses. – June 27, 2018.

  • Those watches, handbags and jewelry are stock for setting up shop post retirement. The cash is for opening a money changing business with branches throughout the country. Such entrepreneurship is praiseworthy.
