THE process of selecting mobile network operators (MNO) to transition to a 5G dual wholesale network (DWN) model is expected to be completed by the year’s end, said Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo.

He said all conditions of the share subscription agreement (SSA) had been fulfilled by every MNO and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) was looking forward to starting the selection process, which is the second stage towards deciding who would develop the next 5G network.

“They (MCMC) were not given a time frame for the process, but I hope it could start moving before the end of this year,” he told reporters at the launch of TNG Digital Sdn Bhd’s gold investment product, e-Mas, today.

In early May, Gobind said the newly appointed board of directors of Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) would meet first to study the due diligence report on the 5G share sale agreement before making any recommendations.

He said the government’s position was clear that the second 5G network would be introduced after certain pre-conditions of the SSA between mobile network operators and DNB had been met. – July 2, 2024.
