MUAR MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman raised RM160,000 for his constituency as he completed his 200km run from Muar to parliament in Kuala Lumpur.

The run, which he started on Friday, aimed to call for government allocations for constituencies held by opposition MPs.

In his final 5km stretch, Syed Saddiq was joined by Bersatu’s Putrajaya MP Radzi Jidin and Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal.

They were greeted by supporters and other Perikatan Nasional lawmakers as they reached the parliament building.

“Alhamdulillah, the total amount raised so far for the Muar parliament service centre has reached RM160,000, way beyond the RM100,000 target,” he told reporters.

He said contributions were from about 2,000 donors, and also from members of the public while on his run.

“Some stopped to give RM50, RM100. One child even gave me RM1. It’s extraordinary because they have never met me face-to-face.

“They may never have set foot in Muar either, but they shared the same aspirations as I do. That’s why I feel that this is not about Muar but Malaysia as a whole,” the former Muda president said.

The fund will be used to manage his service centre in Muar and distribute welfare aid to his constituents.

This includes providing devices for students in Muar, he added. – July 1, 2024.
