POS Malaysia has introduced an online payment system for its Ubat Melalui Pos (UMP) service to make it easier for patients to get their prescriptions and related services from government health institutions.

The national post and parcel service provider said the service is provided in collaboration with the Health Ministry (MOH) and fintech e-wallet and payment company, Kiplepay Sdn Bhd.

The new service improves healthcare access and convenience for Malaysians, especially for those who have difficulty visiting healthcare facilities, Pos Malaysia said in a statement today.

“The newly introduced online payment feature, integrated through Pos Malaysia’s payment gateway into the MOH’s MyUBAT app, allows patients to make secure and convenient payments from anywhere.

“This system supports a variety of payment methods, including credit and debit cards and online banking, ensuring a seamless transaction experience for all users,” Pos Malaysia added.

The UMP service has been available since 2011, allowing patients to receive their prescribed medications and other services directly on their doorstep.

For the period July-December 2023, UMP and Pos Malaysia delivered more than 348,501 prescription parcels.

MOH Pharmacy Services director Norhaliza A. Halim said the online payment simplifies the prescription process for patients “many of whom depend on this essential service for their monthly medication needs”.

Pos Malaysia group CEO Charles Brewer said the initiative “showcases our commitment to innovation and accessibility in healthcare.”

“We’re streamlining operations and ensuring easy access and convenience for all,” he added.

The UMP service is available at 394 MOH healthcare facilities nationwide.

Download the MyUBAT app on Google Play, App Store, or AppGallery to make use of the online payment feature.
