Umno in the dark over revoked emergency ordinances, says Zahid

UMNO president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today claimed his party was not aware that emergency ordinances had been revoked since July 21.

Zahid said this was despite some party lawmakers holding ministerial positions in the Perikatan Nasional government.

“This is proof why Umno should not be linked to the federal government’s failings.

“This is because Umno MPs are working for a federal government called PN. It is no longer a government named Barisan Nasional that lost in the 14th general election due to slander,” he said in a Facebook post tonight.

De facto law minister Takiyuddin Hassan reportedly said government decided to cancel all the ordinances that were passed during the declaration of emergency, effective July 21.

“The government has decided to cancel all the emergency ordinances made during the proclamation. As such, the issue of annulment is no longer relevant,” he said in the Dewan Rakyat.

“The government has also decided not to advise Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah to issue a new declaration when this one expires on August 1,” said the Kota Baru MP.

Zahid, who is also Bagan Datuk MP, used a sports analogy in his bid to distance Umno from PN.

“This is like in sports, when a player from team A is imported and is paid to play for team B.

“If team B fails, must team A be faulted as well?

“These are two different organisations, with different managements. Its methods and philosophies also differ,” he said. – July 28, 2021.
