60 virus cases involving foreign workers detected in Pedas cluster

A total of 60 Covid-19 cases have been reported from a foreign workers cluster in Pedas, Negri Sembilan, and health officials are investigating the root of the infections. – The Malaysian Insight pic by Irwan Majid, May 8, 2020.

A TOTAL of 60 Covid-19 cases have been detected from a cluster involving foreign workers in Pedas, Negri Sembilan, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today.

As of noon today, a total of 786 samples were taken and 286 came back as negative while the results for 440 are still pending.

Of the 60 positive cases, 53 were migrant workers.

Providing the breakdown of nationalities of the migrant workers, Noor Hisham said the cluster includes 25 Nepalese, 18 Bangladeshis, eight Indonesians and two Myanmarese.

“The cluster was detected when an employee of the factory fell ill and was experiencing symptoms such as fever, cough, flu, breathing difficulty and headache on April 5,” said Noor Hisham.

The employee’s test results came back positive on April 12.

The ministry is currently investigating the root cause of the infection in the cluster.

Meanwhile, the supervision period for two other clusters, namely the Bandar Baru Bangi wedding and the Selayang clusters, have ended after no new cases were reported. – May 8, 2020.
