CURBING the Covid-19 pandemic is my main concern now, not politics, said Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

“People are fed up with politics. They don’t want to hear about it,” he said in an interview with Astro Awani and RTM this evening.

He added that since he became prime minister, he has not thought about politics.

That is why, he said, he had never in any of his statements mentioned political issues.

“The people don’t want to hear about it.

“What they want to know is what the government and the ministers are doing to curb the Covid-19 issue they are facing.”

“The people might say that ‘Covid-19 has yet to be resolved and he is talking about his party, about the coalition and other matters’.”

Muhuiyiddin was responding to questions of people questioning the legitimacy and hope of the Perikatan Nasional government.

Muhiyiddin said that what he wants to see is a functioning government.

“For me, this (Covid-19) is the responsibility now. What Malaysians want to see is how we are functioning.

“I already told the cabinet this is a functioning government. What I want to prove is the welfare of the people is prioritised.”

In March, Muhiyiddin became prime minister after forging the Perikatan Nasional alliance with Barisan Nasional, PAS and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has conceded that he does not have the numbers to stage a comeback and re-enter office.

He has said that Muhyiddin’s Perikatan Nasional coalition has the parliamentary support to administer Malaysia until the next general election.

Muhiyiddin said that Malaysians are not interested in all of this (politics).

“I understand that (the politics) and there will come a time when we will explain it.

Earlier today, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 99 patients have recovered from Covid-19 and been discharged from hospitals, exceeding the 51 new cases reported.

He said there were two deaths reported over the past 24 hours, bringing the national death toll to 98. – April 25, 2020.
