Special lanes at causeway for Tg Piai voters coming from Singapore

SPECIAL Lanes will be opened at the Immigration checkpoint at the Johor Causeway to speed the passage of voters coming back from Singapore to vote in the Tanjung Piai by-election, said Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

He said the ministry has discussed this with the Immigration Department and voters only had to show proof they were resident in Tanjung Piai 

“If they can show that they’re residents of Pontian and are travelling to vote on November 16, then they can use the special lane.

The special lane at the Johor-Singapore Causeway will be opened at midnight on November 16 and will remain open until evening.

Speaking to reporters after candidate nomination in Tanjung Piai, he said the Pakatan Harapan government will try its best to ensure that voters in Singapore can come back to vote. 

The seat was left vacant following the death of Dr Md Farid Md Rafik.

The by-election will see six candidates vying for the support of 52,986 voters in the parliamentary constituency.

Campaigning starts today and will go on for 14 days. – November 2, 2019.
