Man, 68, charged over offensive caricature of Prophet


A SENIOR citizen who posted an offensive caricature of the Prophet Muhammad and his wife, Aishah, on social media has claimed trial to two charges over his actions, reports Malaysiakini.

Wai Foo Sin, 68, who was unrepresented, was charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court today and granted a RM20,000 bail in one surety after saying he suffered from diabetes and was unemployed.

Wai was charged under the Penal Code for causing disharmony, disunity or feelings of hatred or ill will, or prejudicing the maintenance of harmony and unity.

The second charge comes under the Communications and Multimedia Act for making an offensive post.

He faces a maximum of five years’ jail for each charge and fines of up to RM50,000 under the Communications Act, if convicted.

Wai was arrested a week ago at his home in Mentakab, Pahang after numerous police reports had been lodged against him.

The Sessions Court today fixed April 5 for case mention. – February 27, 2019.
