THE government’s white paper on issues surrounding the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) is expected to be tabled in Parliament by March, said Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali.

This after the tabling was delayed in December following the attorney-general’s advice.

Felda has been mired in allegations of bad investments and financial issues under the previous Barisan Nasional government. The white paper details Felda’s dubious land deals.

It will also explain the problems that Felda is facing, including dodgy land purchases and loss of funds.

Speaking to setters at Felda Sg Koyan 2 in Cameron Highlands today, Azmin said the cabinet wants the white paper to be tabled as soon as the A-G has cleared certain legal issues involving Felda.

“If it involves any cases under investigation, we will refer to the A-G to see what can be included in our white papers and what cannot,” he said.

Azmin had previously said the white paper will also include recommendations on how Felda can become economically viable.

The government agency is now more than RM8 billion in debt. – January 11, 2019.
