Singapore rejects clemency petition by family of Malaysian on death row

THE Singapore President’s Office last night rejected the clemency petition submitted by Prabu Pathmanathan’s family, said lawyer N. Surendran.

“They sent a letter to Prabu’s brother,” he told Bernama via WhatsApp this morning.

The family of the Malaysian, who is on death row in Singapore, yesterday made a last-minute plea for his life to be spared.

The petition was signed by his parents and five siblings.

Prabu’s execution was scheduled at dawn today, at Changi Prison.

However, Lawyers for Liberty adviser Surendran said he has not received confirmation on the execution.

Prabu, 31, was sentenced to death for trafficking drugs into Singapore via the Causeway on December 31, 2014. – Bernama, October 26, 2018.
