THE government will set up the Bumiputera Prosperity Council to boost the socio-economic status of the community.

Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said the body was part of an intervention framework to drive and accelerate the Bumiputera economy through capacity building.

“This council will act as the highest platform to empower the Bumiputera,” Muhyiddin said in the Dewan Negara today.

The PM will chair the council whose members are ministers, heads of government-linked companies, and entrepreneurs.

Muhyiddin said the council would be supported by the two committees of  Pemandu and Bumiputera Agenda Steering Unit (Teraju).

“Pemandu has already held its first meeting on August 11 and as for Teraju, it has been given the mandate to serve as the key coordinating agency for strategic interventions, initiatives and programmes of Bumiputera socio-economic development, as well as the development of the Bumiputera databases, across all ministries, agencies and GLCs.

“The government will streamline and improve the centralised Bumiputera database to gather the latest, complete and quality information for policy planning and strategic interventions that would be driven by the council,” he said. – September 7, 2020.

  • We have MARA, TERAJU, Amanah Ikhtiar and many more bodies to help the bumiputera. Why these organisations not meeting their intended target? Because the politicians that headed them only served their interest not the poor bumiputera
