THE land clearing that is taking place in the Selangor State Park is for the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL).

State Tourism, Environment, Green Technology and Orang Asli Affairs Committee chairman Hee Loy Sian said the Forestry Department last year issued a permit for the work to be done in the forest reserve.

He said the ECRL project construction in that part of the forest was approved by the cabinet in September 2021.

The Selangor government in November the same year agreed to the amendment to the train line’s original route.

“The approval of the environmental impact assessment (EIA) report for Section C2 (Gombak-Serendah-Port Klang) was obtained by Malaysia Rail Link (MRL) on November 30, 2021, “ he said in a statement today.

Hee said this in response to the claims of a non-governmental organisation that land was being cleared in the Selangor State Park.

He said it is the Selangor government’s position that the ECRL project should proceed as it will boost economic growth.

“The implementation of the ECRL project in the Selangor State Park area has always been controlled so that it complies with the rules and conditions,” he said. – Bernama, February 4, 2023.
