MUHIDDIN Yassin tonight said he is a legitimate prime minister who was sworn in by the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong, in response to opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim’s claim of having the majority in parliament.

Muhyiddin, who is the Bersatu president, dismissed accusations that he had formed a back-door government.

“I don’t want to talk about my government coming in the front door or the back door.

“What matters is I am a prime minister from the royal palace’s door,” Muhyiddin told a crowd in Luyang, Kota Kinabalu.

Anwar today said he had enough majority support in the Dewan Rakyat to eject the Perikatan Nasional government.

He declined to say how many MPs were backing him, saying he would reveal the numbers after he had spoken to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

To these claims, Muhyiddin said they must be proven.

“A claim, for it to be implemented, must be based on the federal constitution. I don’t want to touch on this subject as this is at the discretion of the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong. But I stand here and I am still your prime minister.”

Muhyiddin is chairman of Perikatan Nasional, which is in a loose pact called Gabungan Rakyat Sabah with Sabah Barisan Nasional and Parti Bersatu Sabah.

He urged the crowd not to buy into Warisan Plus’s rhetoric that Peninsula-based PN is a party of colonialists.

“Please don’t think of me as someone from Kuala Lumpur who has come to colonise you. When have I come to colonise you? We are not here to colonise you but to help Sabah.” – September 23, 2020.

What matters most is that you were never mandated by the Rakyat as the PM. Hence Muhyddin, your government is nothing but a backdoor government even though you may have entered the palace via the front door. Got it?

  • How do we fix the error democratically? Follow majority as layed out in the Constitution. No one should hide behind the palace.

  • being chosen by the king isn't a permanent, perpetual thing. the king may choose a different PM if he doesn't believe you hold the majority support. take charge la. advise the king to dissolve the parliament then.
