TWO more Covid-19 patients have fully recovered in Malaysia, bringing the total number of individuals who are still undergoing treatment for the virus to seven.

In his daily update on the outbreak, Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad told reporters that there are no new infections as of today.

One of the two is the mother-in-law of a local Malaysian man, who had contracted the virus on a working visit to Singapore but had since recovered and was discharged.

The other patient is an individual who worked in Macau and had been undergoing treatment in the Sg Buloh Hospital.

Both have recovered and were discharged, Dzulkefly said.

This brings the total number of Covid-19 patients in Malaysia who have recovered to 15, from a cumulative total of 22 positive cases.

Of the seven patients still being treated, two are in hospitals in Kedah, three in Kuala Lumpur Hospital and two in the Sg Buloh hospital.

Dzulkefly said an 83-year-old American who contracted the virus on board a cruise liner is currently being treated at the Sg Buloh hospital.

Her 85 year-old husband has been allowed to stay and accompany her but he has so far tested negative for the virus.

“I’d like to thank all of the Health Ministry’s staff, in all departments and districts who have worked tirelessly to contain the virus and who have helped make these recoveries possible,” Dzulkefly said.

However, the minister said the country cannot become complacent and take things for granted despite today’s successes.

“I advise everyone not to be complacent because across the border in Singapore, they are at orange alert level.”

Singapore has identified 81 Covid-19 cases and the island city’s authorities are enforcing strict home quarantine measures to contain the spread of the virus.

“I want everyone to still practise good hygiene by washing their hands regularly and wear face masks if they are ill. If you are coughing and have shortness of breath please get treatment immediately.” – February 19, 2020.
