ABOUT 2,000 Syrian refugees from 300 families in the Beqaa region received humanitarian aid through the Malaysian Islamic Organisation Consultative Council today.

The victims sheltered at refugee camps received assistance such as food supplies, heaters, and blankets from donations provided by Malaysians.

Mapim’s chief executive officer Ahmad Sani Araby Al-Kahery said there were still thousands who required supplies to deal with what has been the worst winter in the last 10 years.

“Mapim managed to channel the aid in less than 48 hours to refugees in six settlements, and five of the six settlements were in mountainous regions, with temperatures reaching -12 degrees Celsius.

“The bad weather has caused their old tents to collapse due to the heavy snowfall and small children are suffering from the cold due to lack of heaters, blankets, and thick clothing,” he told Bernama here today.
