THE MyDeclaration portal where the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will list the asset declarations of ministers and government MPs will not include their family members’ wealth.

MACC deputy chief commissioner (prevention) Shamsun Baharin Mohd Jamil was reported by Berita Harian as saying that the list to be launched on November 1 would only contain details on the assets of ministers, deputies and parliamentarians.

However, the families of politicians would still need to declare their earnings but these would not be displayed to the public, he said.

“They also need to fill the asset declaration forms as there is a specific space on details of assets owned by children or spouse.

“This will only be kept as a reference for the government and MACC,” Shamsun was quoted saying.

He said the cabinet decided this two weeks ago.

The MyDeclaration portal will give Malaysians access to view information on assets owned by Pakatan Harapan politicians as part of the government’s move towards transparency.

Shamsun said as of last Wednesday, 54 out of 116 PH parliamentarians, including ministers and deputies, have declared their assets.

They include Communication and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo; Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman; Primary Industries Minister Teresa Kok; Deputy Minister in Prime Minister’s Department Hanipa Maidin; and Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Hannah Yeoh.

The MACC man expects more politicians to declare their assets before the due date on October 31.

Shamsun also said those who fail to submit their asset declaration will be named on the website as well.

The list was supposed to be out on October 1st but was delayed to November as MACC chief Shukri Abdul said the postponement was done so that ministers could complete three months of being in power before declaring their assets. – October 22, 2018.
